And is starts w\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehen I was in high school. It turned out that it wasn't better than middle school, though my 14 year old self was sure that was all it took. My 18 year old self was maybe smarter, but nonetheless wiser when I thought, A\u003cem\u003es soon as I can just make it out of here and go to college, THEN I will be happy.\u003c\/em\u003e Then...I went to college. I loved my classes. I loved my friends. But something was still missing. \u003cem\u003eOh, I know, \u003c\/em\u003eI thought\u003cem\u003e. This was a good step, but once I get a \"big girl job\" and get to live out my career, then I will truly be happy! I just need to be fulfilled in my career. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e     So, I settled into my career, yet my heart didn't settle? I loved what I did, but it wasn't enough. Well it was obvious wasn't it? \u003cem\u003eI just haven't found it yet--it must be a person. Yes! Once I have the perfect boyfriend, and we get married, it will finally be complete. I'll have found the pursuit of happiness! \u003c\/em\u003eAnd while I found the most perfect man, my heart wasn't settled. \u003cem\u003eWhat could I possibly be missing? \u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e     \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNo matter how many good things I had, or how many times I found happiness, it always seem to fade.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAfter a while, it was so tiring. The constant striving for joy really just became exhausting. It left me discontent, and yearning for more. It left me wondering if anyone really could ever be at their happiest. \u003cem\u003eWas everyone lying?\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e     True joy does exist, it just didn't look like what I thought. We are taught from the first step we walk into kindergarten to think about, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' But true joy wasn’t what they taught on how to achieve that. It wasn't what I was taught when I watched celebrities get everything they ever wanted...and then hit rock bottom. It wasn't what I was taught when social media told me that if I was more like \u003cem\u003eher\u003c\/em\u003e I could have all the happiness in the world. It was when I surrendered my earthly desires and found someone who taught a new way of life. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e     I figured out that the happiest I had ever been was not wrapped into my friendships and family, though I've been blessed with the best. Nor was it a dream job, which I feel like I am truly living out. Nor was it my husband, who is gentle and patient and reminds me of who I was called to be. No, the happiest I ever was, was when I met Jesus. A man who told me everything I ever did without malice, but with a gentle heart. A heart who wanted to show me something better. A heart who died so I didn't have to. Love that wasn't fleeting, but found in God's presence. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e     \"If I find myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world,\" - C.S. Lewis. As I look to Heaven and know God more intimately, I know true joy. Happiness beyond what this world can offer. And just so you know, you can have that too. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003e     \"No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. He saw me drowning and told me to fix my eyes upon Him and only Him--not the storm. Then surely (though rather slowly due to my human nature), He showed me a new way of thinking. A way of hope. A reminder that we can have hope because He knows how the future ends and it ends in victory. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eOne day, there will be no more death. There will be no more claustrophobia. Anxiety. Though sometimes thoughts can come along at more vulnerable times and though sometimes fear creeps in out of the shadows of my room at night, I choose to rest in God and turn my eyes upon Him. Outwardly, nothing happened (except praise the Lord, I did get those braces off!). But inwardly, God shifted things in my heart. First, he taught me love in Uganda, when a little girl named Kebetso held my hand. Then, he taught me patience, when I taught over 120 high school students. 'Nuff said. Then, he taught me my life was not my own. My aspirations were nothing if not for others. No longer trapped by the world's expectations and standards and what its convinced us we need but is killing us slowly.
